The first memorable portrait I took was for my high school newspaper.  My assignment involved getting a candid shot of the theater teacher and his students.   While I could take several photos of my subjects, I needed that one frame to tell their story.  No words can describe the feeling of capturing the essence of these familiar faces while they smiled and performed.   But it took the right ingredients to produce such an image.

Photography is not just picking up a camera and clicking.  Photography is in the art.  The art of perception.  The art of composition.  And the art of timing.  There are beautiful photographs to be taken by using these elements and even more beautiful smiles to be seen in showing them to others.

For me, people make the best subjects for photography.  Not just their physical persons, but their personalities as well.  When someone’s personality comes through in one of my photographs, that is when I feel successful.  I love getting to know new people as I work with them to create the perfect shot.
